10th anniversary of the Lamma 500 event

Global professional consultancy firm, KPMG, has been announced to be headline sponsoring the Lamma International Dragon Boat Festival 2016 being staged for the tenth year at Tai Wan To Beach, Lamma Island, Hong Kong on 1st May 2016.

Anson Bailey, Principal of Business Development for KPMG Hong Kong said, “KPMG believes strongly in supporting local community initiatives as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle. We are already involved in various sports activities in addition to dragon boating, so it is a natural fit for us. It is great to see that the Lamma 500 has been voted the third-best dragon boat event in the world and we are proud to be involved. ”

Matthew Fenwick, Tax Director, KPMG China and captain of the KPMG team, said: “We are excited to compete in the race with KPMG as the title sponsor. We also look forward to meeting other participants and to enjoy the event. “

Mr Damien Laracy of Laracy & Co and Hill Dickinson solicitors commented, “Laracy & Co is proud to continue to support the Lamma 500 2016, in our ninth year of involvement. We are very pleased to see this fabulous event develop and grow, and we are fully supportive of KPMG taking over from us as headline sponsors of the Lamma 500 going forward to help propel the event to the next level.”

Tournament organizer Mr Brad Tarr commented, “It’s fantastic to welcome KPMG as headline sponsors of the Lamma 500 from this year onwards and we look forward to working closely with them to continue to grow the event.”

“At the same time we also would like to place on record our thanks to Damien Laracy and Hill Dickinson for supporting the Lamma 500 over the last nine years and continuing to sponsor the event as Official Sponsors. As a mark of thanks we have named the U18 race trophy at the Lamma 500 the Damian Laracy Trophy,” said Mr Tarr.

“We’ve had a great response to enter this year’s Lamma 500 and we expect team from North America, Singapore, the Philippines and China to be competing against Hong Kong teams,” said Team Coordinator, Gina Miller.

“We’ll also be featuring our 1,000 metre race, the only one in Hong Kong, and the Under 18 kids competition is also gaining in popularity. It’s going to be a great day on and off the water!” said Ms Miller.

Mr Tarr also announced a new media partner for the KPMG Lamma 500, Localiiz Hong Kong. Ms Katie MacGregor of Localiiz Hong Kong said, “I have been paddling in Hong Kong for more than two decades and without a doubt, The Lamma 500 is the best race there is. It is a wonderful celebration as well as a keen dragon boat competition and we are delighted to be media partners, and to share the excitement with our 65,000 Facebook followers and be there on the day.”

Spectators are welcome at the KPMG Lamma 500, food and drinks are available at the beach.
